I’m sure you already know that the best way to keep a consistent flow of leads and sales into your business is to consistently do the right kind of marketing activity. However with the best will in the world, there are times in every business where you need to find new leads and new business fast.
I’ve chosen techniques that require minimal (if any) cash investment, just a bit of time. So here’s ten of my favourites to generate new business to business (B2B) leads quickly.
- Contact lapsed clients – preferably by phone but email works too. Remind them you still exist!
- Contact lapsed proposals – people you quoted who never went ahead. Chances are they didn’t do anything at all!
- Ask existing clients for recommendations
- Contact existing clients and tell them about a product or service they don’t currently buy from you
- Make a list of 30 ideal clients who you don’t currently work with, then pick up the phone and start a conversation with them (remember to screen numbers against the Telephone Preference Service first)
- Visit a networking event and find out how you can help others (this may sound counter-intuitive but genuinely looking to help others often leads to unexpected opportunities)
- Send an email campaign – you don’t need consent if you’re targeting businesses, but remember to include an unsubscribe link
- Send a handwritten note or card in the post to your ideal prospects, then follow up with a phone call (again, screen phone numbers against the TPS first)
- Take the free month’s trial of LinkedIn Sales Navigator – use it to identify and then message your ideal targets, aim to start a conversation, not sell
- Post on social media 3-5 times per week for a month and include strong ‘Call to Action’ statements then reach out to the people who interact with your posts
Wondering how to narrow down your targets?
If you need to close sales fast, consider targeting quick wins – the sections of your market with the quickest ‘flash to bang’ – they make decisions fast and you get to invoice them quickly. These kind of leads often convert quickly but may have a lower transaction value. If you can wait longer for the deal to pay out, you may want to target some of those higher value, slow burn targets – these strategies work on both.
